CED277 Supervision - Lead with Excellence Thurs 11am-1pm CST

CED471 01 EMT Basic 2025-26

The Emergency Medical Technician Basic Course provides theory, laboratory, and clinical training and prepares students to stabilize and safely transport patients needing emergency services. Students will learn how to use a wide variety of skills and equipment and also learn how to provide safe, quality care in the current healthcare environment.

The EMT-Basic training will prepare students to provide care to patients in a variety of pre-hospital settings, and will cover safety, a variety of injuries, and assessment. Students will learn about their responsibilities as an EMT, stress management, scene safety, safety precautions, legal and ethical issues, anatomy and physiology, body mechanics, assessment, pharmacology, maintenance of an airway, resuscitation, communication, trauma and medical emergencies, as well as how to handle a crash scene.
Successful completion of this course allows students who are eligible to apply to the National Registry to take the licensure exam for EMT Basic.

18 years of age (or be 18 prior to licensing exam) – State Minimum Requirement

WHEN:
Students must be up to date on immunizations and pass a criminal background check prior to entering clinical areas. Completion of the course does not guarantee eligibility for state examination. Past criminal conviction may interfere with eligibility. The student is responsible for assuring eligibility for testing, and should contact the Michigan Department of Consumer and Industry Services at (517) 241-3018 with questions.

CED136 Fundamentals of Photography

No prior experience is required for this hands-on class—our training meets you where you are. Whether you bring a camera from home or simply use your smartphone, you’ll gain the skills and confidence to capture better photos and videos.
The course combines instruction with plenty of application time, covering camera basics, shooting techniques, and an introduction to editing. Students will also explore how photography connects to social media marketing.
The format is flexible: you can bring your own topics or just join in and follow along. Each student will also have the chance to work one-on-one with the instructor for personalized guidance.
**Please note that there will not be class the week of Thanksgiving 2025**

CED 450 CPR Recertification Skills Test
with Karen Balyeat
This course is for recertification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers, hands-on skills training.
Students must bring proof of completion of the American Heart Association Heartcode BLS online course with them to the skills test out. The online training is purchased through the American Heart Association website: HeartCode® BLS | AHA
Students ready for the hands-on skills test out should:
- Send Karen Balyeat (KarenB@gogebic.edu) a copy of online completion verification. Please email her the information and set up a test-out time.
- On the day of the hands on skills test, go to A309 on the GCC Ironwood Campus. Karen Balyeat’s office is A310, right across the hall.
- Test out equipment will be set up for you to practice on. Once you are ready to test out, notify Karen, and she will proctor your test out.
This class includes the cost of a certification card. Cards will be sent to students at the end of each month.
CED 403 Nursing Skills
with Pat Strand
The Nursing Skills Competency course is an 8-hour class that will review the information that the individual will need to know before testing out at the end of the course. Course meets the State Board of Nursing Skills Test requirements for renewal of a lapsed license. Classes will be scheduled on an as needed bases.
